What’s next

Now that we have gathered all the utensils to make soap. Let’s talk about what soap is.

Soap is the the results of mixing an oil, lye ( sodium hydroxide) and water. Soap cannot be made without lye. This process is called soaponification. Without this process there will be no soap.

Soaponification will only happen when you have the ingredients just right. This is why a scale is a must.

Most products that are sold in the stores are mild detergents not soap. These products have been stripped of their natural moisturizer called glycerin. Then other non organic chemicals are added to these detergents to replace the natural moisturizer that has been removed.

These added chemicals add lather, smells and a longer shelf life.

Now that you know what soap is, let’s make soap.

By making your own true soap, you can retain the moisturizing properties of the glycerin.

In my next blog post we will go step by step with making a 3 ingredient soap. Yes, we will make soap with oil, water and lye (sodium hydroxide).

Thank,

Monica
